Ming-Po CAI is the Founder and President of Cathay Capital Private Equity.
Mr. CAI brings more than 20 years of cross-border investment experience and deep expertise developing China-entry strategies for multinational companies, and globalization strategies for Chinese companies expanding internationally. Prior to founding Cathay Capital, Mr. CAI successfully founded and managed several companies in various sectors. Cathay’s focus business sectors include consumer goods, health care, modern service industry, environment, agriculture and food security, as well as advanced technology.
Ming-Po CAI is an independent director of GL Events and sits on the board of several Cathay portfolio companies. In addition, he is member of the prestigious International Advisory Board of CEIBS, sits at the Honorary Committee of Parsons The New School in Paris, and is an active member of the global business leaders organization YPO. He is also a director on the boards of two foundations – France-Chine Entreprendre Fondation, which Cathay Capital established in 2011, and the CEIBS Education Foundation.
Mr. CAI received a master’s degree in Management from EM Lyon in France, and an EMBA from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China.
Denis Barrier is a Managing Partner of Cathay Innovation, the activity of Cathay Capital group dedicated to partnering with and investing in innovative start-ups of the digital economy.
Prior to joining Cathay in 2015, Denis Barrier was a Partner at Iris Capital, Head of Corporate Venture at Orange, and Managing Partner at Innovacom, he oversaw the development of both Orange and Publicis’ venture capital activities. Prior to that, Denis worked as an officer at APE (l’Agence des Participations de l’État),
the agency managing the French state’s holdings within the French Treasury, in charge of the areas of aerospace, defence, and media. He started as a Researcher with France Télécom in the R&D department, where he developed and produced optical components combining the advantages of nanotechnology and new materials for telecom networks.
Denis holds a Ph.D. in Optoelectronics and is a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure and of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications.
Lanchun is a Managing Partner of Cathay Capital, based in Shanghai.
Lanchun joined Cathay Capital in 2010, and brings to the firm 10 years of audit and transaction services experience in China.
Prior to Cathay Capital, Lanchun was an Associate Director with Deloitte & Touch Corporate Finance in China. In her role, she led the financial review and valuation of M&A targets, and assisted with regulatory compliance and structures of deals, for many corporate and private equity firms. Representative clients included 3i, Blackstone, Carlyle, Merrill Lynch, SAIF Investment, Sumitomo, Shell, Iveco, Baosteel, China Resources, Jinjiang Group, Shanghai Auto Industrial Group.
Previously, Lanchun was an Assistant Business Manager of Brian Jessel BMW in Vancouver, Canada. Prior to that, and out of undergraduate school, Lanchun spent 3 years as a Senior Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Beijing, where she performed IPO audits for large Chinese companies.
Lanchun holds a bachelor degree in Accounting from the Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing. She is also graduated from the Simon Fraser University Business School in Canada, and CEIBS in Shanghai (executive MBA).
Jacky Abitbol works as a Partner of the Cathay Innovation fund within Cathay Capital. He benefits from over 17 years of advisory and operational experience in Telecommunications, Medias and Technology, with a particular expertise in venture capital and corporate development.
Prior to joining Cathay Capital, Jacky was a Venture Partner with Iris Capital in Israel from 2012 to 2015. In this role, he was responsible for identifying investment opportunities for Iris Capital and monitoring local portfolio companies.
In addition Jacky headed the Corporate Development activity for Orange startups program.
Before, he was Vice President for Corporate Development at Orange Digital from 2012 to 2013 and Investment Director at Orange Capital (now Iris Capital) from 2011 to 2012.
Previously, Jacky Abitbol was Business Development & Sales Director for the mobile division of SanDisk from 2006 to 2011 and worked as a Corporate and Business Development Director at GFI in Spain from 2003 to 2006.
He started his career as part of the management team of Fantine Group (now Aviv Ventures).
Jacky holds a MBA from Boston University and a degree in Business Administration from Madrid Business School.
