Ming-Po CAI is the Founder and President of Cathay Capital Private Equity, the leading global private equity firm created by Entrepreneurs for Entrepreneurs and an expert in creating value through cross-border investment across China, Europe and North America.
Cathay Capital, founded by Ming-Po CAI with his business partner Edouard Moinet in 2006, is fully dedicated to helping its portfolio company management teams to succeed beyond their original borders and to accelerate cross-border growth strategies. Cathay Capital’s team of 76 – including 13 partners – is based in Shanghai, Beijing, Paris, Munich, New York and the San Francisco, and leverage on Cathay’s unique business model and platform to connect local ecosystems on three continents.
Under Ming-Po CAI’s leadership, Cathay Capital has grown to more than USD 2 billion in assets under management and has invested in 80 companies across three continents. Cathay Capital has a range of eight funds in three series - smallcaps, midcaps and innovation VC fund.
Mr. CAI brings more than 20 years of cross-border investment experience and deep expertise developing China-entry strategies for multinational companies, and globalization strategies for Chinese companies expanding internationally. Prior to founding Cathay Capital, Mr. CAI successfully founded and managed several companies that operated in the industrial, distribution and textile sectors. Cathay Capital focuses on industries including consumer goods, health care, modern service industry, environment, agriculture and food security, as well as advanced technology.
Ming-Po CAI is an independent director of GL Events and sits on the board of several Cathay portfolio companies including Poten Environment, Meinian Health 100 and ZM Logistics. In addition, he is member of the prestigious International Advisory Board of CEIBS, sits at the Honorary Committee of Parsons The New School in Paris. He is also a director on the boards of two foundations – France-Chine Entreprendre Fondation, which Cathay Capital established in 2011, and the CEIBS Education Foundation. And he is a member of 2005 Committee.
Mr. CAI received a master’s degree in Management from EM Lyon in France, and an EMBA from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China.
Denis is co-founder and CEO of Cathay Innovation.
Prior to Cathay, he was at Iris Capital where he managed the international activities of the Orange/Publicis fund. He has also been the Head of Corporate Venture at Orange Telecom, and a Managing Director at Innovacom. He has also worked as an Officer at the French Treasury Department, in charge of all the Sovereign holdings in Aerospace, Defense, and Media companies.
Denis has a deep technical background and started as a Researcher in the laboratories of Orange Telecom, working mainly on semiconductor quantum dots. He holds a Ph.D. in solid state Physics, is a graduate of Ecole Normale Supérieure, and is an engineer of Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications. He has also been a Member of the French Council for Entrepreneurship and of Corps des Mines.
Lanchun is a Managing Partner of Cathay Capital, based in Shanghai.
Lanchun joined Cathay Capital in 2010, and brings to the firm 10 years of audit and transaction services experience in China.
Prior to Cathay Capital, Lanchun was an Associate Director with Deloitte & Touch Corporate Finance in China. In her role, she led the financial review and valuation of M&A targets, and assisted with regulatory compliance and structures of deals, for many corporate and private equity firms. Representative clients included 3i, Blackstone, Carlyle, Merrill Lynch, SAIF Investment, Sumitomo, Shell, Iveco, Baosteel, China Resources, Jinjiang Group, Shanghai Auto Industrial Group.
Previously, Lanchun was an Assistant Business Manager of Brian Jessel BMW in Vancouver, Canada. Prior to that, and out of undergraduate school, Lanchun spent 3 years as a Senior Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Beijing, where she performed IPO audits for large Chinese companies.
Lanchun holds a bachelor degree in Accounting from the Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing. She is also graduated from the Simon Fraser University Business School in Canada, and CEIBS in Shanghai (executive MBA).
Jacky Abitbol works as a Partner of the Cathay Innovation fund within Cathay Capital. He benefits from over 17 years of advisory and operational experience in Telecommunications, Medias and Technology, with a particular expertise in venture capital and corporate development.
Prior to joining Cathay Capital, Jacky was a Venture Partner with Iris Capital in Israel from 2012 to 2015. In this role, he was responsible for identifying investment opportunities for Iris Capital and monitoring local portfolio companies.
In addition Jacky headed the Corporate Development activity for Orange startups program.
Before, he was Vice President for Corporate Development at Orange Digital from 2012 to 2013 and Investment Director at Orange Capital (now Iris Capital) from 2011 to 2012.
Previously, Jacky Abitbol was Business Development & Sales Director for the mobile division of SanDisk from 2006 to 2011 and worked as a Corporate and Business Development Director at GFI in Spain from 2003 to 2006.
He started his career as part of the management team of Fantine Group (now Aviv Ventures).
Jacky holds a MBA from Boston University and a degree in Business Administration from Madrid Business School.
